5 Best chicken breeds for children

Silk

Silk Chicken is at the top of our list of child-friendly chicken breeds. This breed is the sweetest, most tender chicken in the world. The fact that these chicks are about half the size of the other birds on this list is also a good advantage because they are easy to handle for children.

We’ve been growing silk for almost ten years and we’ve never had any problems with aggression, on the contrary! Our silkworms are generally lower in the hierarchy, they are not against submission and have no desire to fight.

Another advantage of silk culture is that they are quite calm and move only slowly. I don’t think they scare the kids or scare them away. Our silky chickens love to be raised, and even our silky cock enjoys a good hug every now and then.

Orppington

Orppington is not for nothing a popular public, these birds are simply beautiful here. Orpingtons are an ideal chick for children because they are always calm, fresh and full of life. While the rest of our herd sways, flies, runs and scratches, the Orppingtons stand upright and strong and look carelessly at the chaos in the world. This trait makes this breed less likely to frighten children, and we’ve even seen some quiet Orppington circles with their relatives!

Many chicken breeders call the Orppingtons the Golden Retriever of the chicken world because they have a cheerful and playful personality and a good nature around all kinds of people. There is a wide range of chickens for every family.

Australorp

Australorpe is a new breed for us, but it has already established itself as one of our favourites. These ladies are quiet and shy, but not fickle. They are curious and intelligent and tend to pick things up faster than the rest of our herd.

And best of all, the Australian armed forces are very friendly, sometimes even too friendly! Our Australians follow us and kneel while we sit in the garden. They love to be among people and don’t bother at all with the children chasing them.

Cohin

Although we do not breed chickens ourselves, we have heard many people say that this is one of the sweetest and most beautiful breeds of chicken. Pigs are known as gentle giants, and their gentle ways are very suitable for family and children. Coins can weigh over eight pounds, and their feathers make them even bigger! Because of their large size, they move slowly and are easy to catch, but can be difficult for young children to catch. This breed can be better with a family that has older children.

The only disadvantage of lifting the counters is that they can easily require extensive maintenance. They tend to gain weight and therefore many delicacies of this breed are a big taboo. In addition, toothpicks must be kept in a very clean handle so that the feathers in their feet are not dirty or damaged. If your children are a bit older and very responsible, this breed can just be perfect for your family!

Dominic

Many confuse Chicken Dominic with Barred Rock or Plymouth Rock. Although they are very similar, the Dominicans wear a pink crest on their heads and are one of the most beautiful breeds of chicken in the world.

Dominic is my favorite breed, and they get along well with the kids! The Dominicans just want to attract attention, they want to be on their knees to talk to you while you hang up your underwear, and they want to be close to you when you’re in the garden. If your kids are looking for a chicken that’s a real pet, Dominic won’t let you down.

Here’s another advantage if you include a few Dominicans in your backpack: The Dominicans are on the chicken waiting list, which means this breed is in danger! You can be a hero to the chickens and a hero to your children if you choose this beautiful breed!

I hope this post has helped you decide which breed of chicken is best for your family. These are my top five options, but that doesn’t mean they’re the only ones! There are many breeds of chicken called large pets.
