If you live in a cold climate and plan to raise chicks, you need cold, hard chickens to ensure the success of your herd. Many breeds of chicks are specially bred to withstand the cold and even thrive in the cold. 1С8

The best cold resistant breeds of chickens are chickens with small scallops and wickerwork and lots of meat on the bones. These large chicks acclimatize to the cold rather than fireflies and thin birds because they have more fat and muscles to protect them from the cold.

In winter, chickens are frozen on their bare skin. Chickens with a large comb and wickerwork are more susceptible to frostbite because their body has difficulty regulating the temperature. That’s why our chick breeds recommended for cold resistance have a small comb and a small braid.

Chanteklers are one of our most popular chicken breeds with cold stiffness. They have a lot of courage and personality and are often at the top of the hierarchy. This breed is often caring and they are beautiful and very protective mothers. With their pea-like crests, very small webs and large bodies, these birds are ideal for a cold climate.

Another reason why Chanteclers are excellent in cold climates is that they are one of the few breeds native to Canada and bred to be one of the coldest and heaviest chicks.
